Society of Israeli Aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology Newsletter
The IJA Open Access (OA) Story
(Updated on January 6, 2010)

Volume 61(4) was the last IJA printed issue. As from January 2010 the journal will appear exclusively as an on-line Open Access (OA) Electronic Journal (E-journal).  This transformation nevertheless will in no way affect the quality of published articles, all of which will be peer-reviewed before acceptance.

The Society of Israeli Aquaculture and Marine Biotechnology (SIAMB) adopted the OA policy because it believes in the principle allowing free access to scientific publications. The IJA doesn't charge a fee for article submissions and by doing so is one of the few, if not the only journal to adopt such a policy.

The adoption of an OA policy based on voluntary donations has not come without severe doubts concerning the continuity of funding in the future. The SIAMB is will try to find alternative sources of income and calls all supporters of the OA concept to make their contribution in favor of this project.
